Annabelle 2 imdb11/19/2022 Many suggested that Annabelle Sethupathi could appeal to kids. Apart from Taapsee and Yogi Babu, none of the characters were able to make an impact. Radikaa Sarathkumar goes overboard with her expressions. But, he is calm even when his wife Annabelle is dying in his hands. Veera Sethupathi is shown as a king who is calm and collected. What was disappointing was the way his character was etched. Only their clothes tell you that they don't belong to the present.įor Vijay Sethupathi, his character is a cakewalk. The entire period portion doesn't give out the feeling that the story is set in the 1940s. In the second half of the film, Taapsee comes as Annabelle with a strong British accent. It is a welcome change to see her have fun onscreen. Taapsee Pannu as Rudra and Annabelle is adequate. It feels like there is a representative of the audience inside the film. His character, Shanmugam, mocks a character and calls out a boring joke. In several scenes, we feel Yogi Babu actually understands the plight of the audience. This is what makes Annabelle Sethupathi bland. Again, it is not something you haven't chanced upon. As a concept, it is great to see ghosts of the past having fun on screen. The USP of Annabelle Sethupathi is the fantasy element. Even there, we get such old jokes like Taapsee's Rudra making fun of Yogi Babu by calling him 'Panni moonji vaayan (pig-faced).' Such body-shaming jokes on Yogi Babu continue to haunt him and the audience. The movie relies on slapstick and situational comedy. But, when the screenplay is full of stale ideas, there is only so much the audience can endure. You just stare at the screen, and at the sheer absurdity.ĭirector Deepak Sundarrajan's attempt to make a light horror-comedy is commendable. The events unfolding on the screen do not evoke any kind of emotion - positive or negative. On the pretext of making a spoof of other horror comedies, the audience is robbed of any new experiences. When she realises her power, she vows to free the inhabitants of the haunted palace.Īnnabelle Sethupathi is a soulless fantasy horror comedy that is devoid of originality. She gets to learn the similarities between Annabelle and herself. Cut to 2021, Rudra and her family arrive at the palace only to find that it is haunted.īut, Rudra is attracted to the place. In the 1940s, Sethupathi and Annabelle lead a happy life. Rudra (Taapsee Pannu) is a modern-day petty thief, who aims to rob a palace, which was built by King Veera Sethupathi (Vijay Sethupathi) for his wife Annabelle (Taapsee Pannu). Adding to the list of exhausting horror-comedy films is the latest entrant, Annabelle Sethupathi. You don't get scared watching the proceedings, instead, you start laughing at the clichés unfolding on the big screen. Horror films these days don't intend to do what they are supposed to do. Vijay Sethupathi and Taapsee Pannu's Annabelle Sethupathi is streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
